Fresh Art and Design and Silent Art Auction
With the degree shows over, how does an aspiring artist get their work in the public eye and how do would-be art patrons get the chance to pick up a future masterpiece? This summer, the answer is provided by Fresh Art and Design - an innovative new Open Exhibition and Silent Art Auction at VIEw from the Top gallery, above Waterstone’s, in Nottingham city centre.
New graduates, early career artists and designer-maker businesses have been invited to take part in this unique event aimed at exposing new talent to customers on the High St. Many of the participants will be exhibiting for the first time outside of their education and the invitation includes illustrators, photographers, graphic designers, sculptors and designer makers, including fashion designers, textile designers and jewellers. Fresh Art & Design will be an eclectic show, defined by the quality of the work exhibited.
'Fresh is being organised by young artist and illustrator, Charlotte Thomson, with the help of a small team of aspiring artistic practitioners from Nottingham Trent University, South Nottinghamshire College and Loughborough University School of Art and Design. Charlotte started her illustration business 2 years ago and says 'as an emerging creative practitioner I know how important opportunities are to get your work in front of the public. Pricing your work is always difficult and the auction is an exciting way of testing the market for your kind of work.’
‘Fresh’ will be a great opportunity for established businesses and art collectors to see the new talent on the scene, with around 30 individuals from Nottingham and the wider Midlands area expected to take part. Exhibiters can submit up to 10 examples of their work, all of which are for sale through the Silent Art Auction running throughout. A ‘Buy it Now’ price is available for buyers who can’t risk losing a piece they’ve fallen for and contact details for all exhibiters will be on display for commissions following the show.
Fresh Art and Design runs from August 8th – September 2nd. Admission is free and viewing is from 9am-7pm Monday – Saturday and 10.30 – 5pm Sunday.
